DevOps is so much more than just smashing “Development” and “Operations” together and calling it a day. Over the years, it has evolved, been misunderstood, rebranded, stretched beyond recognition, and—let’s be honest—hijacked by buzzword enthusiasts.
One of the biggest culprits? Microsoft. They decided to slap “DevOps” onto their Agile Boards in Azure DevOps, forever confusing business users. Now, every time I introduce myself as a DevOps Engineer, I get asked to create Azure DevOps Boards. Errr that is not really DevOps.

In this blog, I’ll share my thoughts, experiences, and possibly a few rants about what DevOps truly is, how it has evolved, and where it’s heading. From its origins in Gene Kim’s (Jez Humble, Patrick Debois) The DevOps Handbook to the modern-day interpretations (and misinterpretations), we’ll explore the essence of DevOps, leadership, working with teams and why it’s more than just tools and pipelines.
